The History of Laminate
Laminate flooring had its big debut in Sweden in the 1920's. Originally created by Pergo, a chemical and lamination company, it was mainly used as countertops. In 1977, it started its function as a flooring product with the name Pergo, same as the company. It was ten times stronger that the beginning laminate used on countertops, and local flooring dealers jumped all over it.
Laminate began to sweep over Europe at a fast pace, and then arrived in North America in the early 1990's.
