The Methods Of Installing Hardwood Flooring

When professional hardwood installers put your flooring in place, they will typically follow so specific methods of installation. Some of the methods of hardwood flooring installation include:

  • Floating - If padding has been placed between the subfloor and the hardwood boards and no mechanical fastening has been used to hold them down, this allows to boards to loosely "float".
  • Nail Down - The most common historical hardwood installation method. This is simply when nails are driven through the hardwood planks into the subfloor, securely fastening them together.
  • Staple Down - This is very similar to nailing the boards down, except staples are used instead to connect them together.
  • Glue Down - For this method, an adhesive is placed on the planks to hold them down to the subfloor. This method is used more with engineered hardwood flooring.
