The Common Hardwood Flooring Myths

To keep your hardwood floors performing well and looking good for years to come, make sure to read up on these common hardwood flooring myths:

  • Do not believe the myth stating that damp mopping a hardwood floor is the right way to clean it. Water can create some bad damage to it including warping, splitting, and discoloration. Make sure you learn how to clean hardwood floors properly from a professional.
  • High heel shoes are not good for hardwood floors, and they never will be. Many people believe that they do not cause any problems, but high or spiked heels can pound away at the flooring. Keep them off your wood floors.
  • If your hardwood flooring begins to cup or warp, it does not necessarily mean the wood is defective. You may actually have a moisture problem underneath the planks. Do not automatically suspect that the product or the method of hardwood installation used is the problem.
  • If you start to see some gaps in between the boards, this also does not mean that the product is defective. Almost every wood experiences a little separation. If you live in a climate where the humidity and temperature fluctuates, this may occur more often.
  • If you happen to find a defective board in the product order you had purchased, do not rely on the manufacturer to fix the problem. It is up to the installers and the customer to inspect the flooring before the job is finalized.

Now that you know the main myths that come with hardwood flooring, you will be able to properly maintain and keep your new floors looking great for years to come.
